The Best Disney Memes of the Week (March 4, 2023)

I don't know about y'all, but I'm curious to see how the live-action Little Mermaid movie will differ from its source material. It seems like every Disney live-action remake tries to comment on the movie it's based on, primarily trying to make it more feminist. The remakes of Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, and Mulan all tried to amp up the feminism in their movies, almost trying to apologize for the allegedly inadequate "girl power" in the original films. I found this weird because the Disney movies of the 90s feature many empowered female characters who stand strong without explicit text about how empowered they are. The Little Mermaid is going to be the hardest one to pull off if they're going the girl-boss route again. Ariel wants to be with the Prince, and that's not a crime! She goes on land for a guy, and there are no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I'm hoping that Disney has learned their lesson; A forced girl-boss princess does not a good movie make.
